Volunteer Chairperson, new Local Community Safety Partnerships (LCSP)

Galway County Council invites Expressions of Interest for consideration to the appointment as Volunteer Chairperson of a new Local Community Safety Partnerships (LCSP) which will be established in each Local Authority area in line with the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024. Please note this structure is replacing the former Joint Policing Committee (JPC), which had PPN Representatives on it.

Galway County Council is inviting the public to participate in a consultation process for the development of the Galway County LECP, a six-year plan that aims to promote sustainable economic and community development across Galway County.

Accessibility at Water Sports Facilities and Mountain Biking Trailhead Centres
|
O’Herlihy Access Consultancy (OHAC) have contacted us to request our assistance and input in a national survey they are conducting, in partnership with Fáilte Ireland.
Fáilte Ireland is committed to ensuring their tourist destinations, products and services are accessible to all people, regardless of age, size, ability, or disability. They are funding the development of public facilities at 19 coastal and inland waterside locations, as well as at five mountain biking centres, with the aim of supporting and encouraging participation in water sports and mountain biking. A key priority of these projects is to ensure these facilities are following best practice in Universal Design with the aim of creating fully accessible and inclusive visitor experiences.
O’Herlihy Access Consultancy (OHAC) have been engaged to facilitate a consultation process to understand the experiences, challenges, and needs of people with disabilities and older people. As part of this consultation, OHAC will be conducting a national survey in addition to the facilitation of online and in person consultation sessions.

Peatlands Climate Action Scheme - Attymon Co. Galway
|
The Department of Environment, Climate and Communications approved grant funding of €108 million in 2020 for the scheme ‘Peatlands Climate Action Scheme (PCAS)’. Under this scheme, enhanced rehabilitation has commenced on fifty-six bogs since 2021 and it is proposed that rehabilitation will commence on an additional thirteen bogs in 2024. A rehabilitation plan must be prepared and part of the process includes consultation with stakeholders and affected parties.
To facilitate this consultation process, a Draft Rehabilitation Plan and associated Map Book for Attymon Bog is now available on the Peatlands Climate Action Scheme website at the following location: https://www.bnmpcas.ie/2024-bogs/.
Bord na Mona invite you to make a submission or to comment on the Attymon Bog Draft Rehabilitation Plan. Please make any such submissions to the email address (pcasinfo@bnm.ie <mailto:pcasinfo@bnm.ie> ) before 1st August 2024.

Submissions in relation to the Draft Plan may be made by any of the following options:

Community Centre Investment Fund (CCIF) 2024
|
Deadline for application 29th of August 2024
Designed to support the development and refurbishment of community centres across Ireland.
Supporting essential maintenance, retrofitting, and other necessary improvements, with grants of between €10,000 - €100,000 towards capital costs to develop and enhance their existing community facilities.
Eligibility and Funding Scope
Existing community centres can apply for funding to cover a range of projects, including compliance with fire safety and building regulations, energy efficiency upgrades, and essential maintenance works.
Application Process
The application process involves two stages: initial registration and formal application submission. Application window opens on 29th of July 2024, with applications due by 29th of August 2024. Applicants can register online HERE ahead of the application open date of the 29th of July.
Support for Applicants
The Department is hosting online information sessions to assist applicants. The first session is scheduled for 25th of June 2024. Additionally, tutorials and support resources are available to guide applicants through the registration and application process.

New Solutions Funding to Support Social Innovation
|
Minister Joe O’Brien recently announced the ESF+ New Solutions Funding to support social innovation across the country.
Deadline to submit applications is 5pm on Friday, 30 August 2024
The overall objective of New Solutions is to enhance the social innovation ecosystem in Ireland and is co-funded through the European Social Fund+ 2021-2027 (ESF+), a European initiative aimed at reducing the risk of poverty and social exclusion, with an emphasis on disadvantaged groups.
I would like to bring to your attention that the first call for applications under the New Solutions Social Innovation Fund is now open. It provides up to €2.8 million to establish a Social Innovation Hub over the lifetime of the Programme.

Funding for European Projects for Adult Education & Community Development
|
The next deadline for funding applications through Erasmus+ is coming up on October 1st, 2024.
The Adult Education team at Léargas is here to support any organisation that is new to European projects. Our Adult Education funding supports non-formal and informal learning for adults, which covers lots of social inclusion and community development work happening in your communities.
This funding can support:
Training and job shadowing opportunities for staff and volunteers in European countries
International learning experiences for participants in adult learning and community programmes
Collaboration between organisations in European countries for exchange of practice and shared resource development.

National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards 2024
|
National Play Day - Loughrea - Sunday 21st July from 12noon-2pm
|
National Play Day is just around the corner!
On Sunday 21st July from 12noon-2pm Galway Sports Partnership are hosting an event at Loughrea Fairgreen (beside the playground)!
There will be a number of activities including Drumadore, Gliondar, face-painting, obstacle course, a sensory area and orienteering!
*Note parents must supervise their children at all times*
National Play Day events are an initiative from Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, which aims to promote play and recreation opportunities for children and young people all across the country, and the theme this year is ‘Time to Play!’
There will be water available at this event but we ask attendees to bring their own bottles.

Ecological Sensitivity Analysis Webinar - Wednesday 24th July at 2.30pm

The MPA Advisory Group would now like to invite you to a webinar on the Ecological Sensitivity Analysis of the Celtic Sea, which will be hosted online from 2.30pm-4.00pm on Wednesday 24th July 2024.
This online event will provide all stakeholders and participants with an overview of the study, its outcomes and its key findings. There will be an opportunity to ask questions after the main presentation. Please note that the webinar will be recorded and made available online after the event.
