Cathaoirleach’s Awards 2025

Friday 16th May 2025 Raheen Woods Hotel, Athenry, Co. Galway
The Cathaoirleach’s Awards 2025 are an annual initiative to acknowledge the commitment of individuals and groups who participate in community and voluntary activities in County Galway and to recognise the significant impact their actions have on quality of life in their communities.
The Awards are a joint venture between Galway County Council and the Public Participation Network, which has over 1,300 Member Groups carrying out a range of community and voluntary activities across the County.
There are ten awards categories, and the winners of each Award Category will be announced by the Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Martina Kinane, at an event on the 16th of May in the Raheen Woods Hotel Athenry.

MOBILE WEEE (WASTE ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT) 
COLLECTIONS MAY 2025

WEEE Ireland, the Irish compliance scheme for electrical and battery recycling, will hold a series of 
WEEE collections throughout County Galway. These collections will allow people from towns and villages across the county to dispose of any household electrical equipment and batteries in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards 2025

Closing date for applications: Friday 30th May 2025
Age Friendly Ireland is thrilled to announce that we are now open for applications to the National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards 2025. Galway City Council and Galway County Council are jointly hosting this year’s event in The Galmont Hotel, Galway, on Thursday, October 23rd, 2025.
We are seeking innovative projects from across this range of areas that have real impact on the lives of older people and have the potential to be showcased and replicated. Shortlisted projects will be invited to Ireland’s Age Friendly Recognition and Achievements Awards ceremony in Galway in October.

Public Consultation - Policing Priorities For An Garda Síochána 

The closing date is Sunday 8th June 2025
The Policing and Community Safety Authority
(PCSA) is the new oversight body for An Garda Síochána. The PCSA sets the Policing Priorities and these establish what we want the Gardaí to give the most attention and resources to, in order to deliver an effective policing service for you and to make people feel safe in their communities. The PCSA is currently reaching out to people and communities across Ireland to hear their views on what the Policing Priorities should be for An Garda Síochána for 2026-2028.
We want you to have your say by completing the Public Consultation and letting us know what areas of policing and community safety are most important to you. It will take about 10 minutes to complete, and there is a short, optional survey at the end. Anyone over the age of 16 years old can have their say.

SuperValu TidyTowns 

The closing Date for SuperValu TidyTowns competition is Monday 12th May 2025

The SuperValu TidyTowns Competition is one of Ireland’s best-known community and environmental initiatives. It’s managed by the Department of Rural and Community Development along with the Gaeltacht and is proudly supported by SuperValu. Cormac McCarthy who is a former chair of Ennis TidyTowns and a current SuperValu TidyTowns adjudicator has submitted a presentation with useful information and tips on how to complete a TidyTowns application form.

Empower Tech Futures Fund

Closing date: Thursday 15th May 2025 at 1:00pm  
Rethink Ireland with the support of the JP Morgan Chase Foundation, the Department of Rural and Community Development and BNY has created a three-year Empower Tech Futures Fund to support up to 5 projects or organisations over 3 years that are supporting vulnerable young adults aged 18-30 into employment. The fund will support organisations that provide skills training (especially in digital and technology), and/or direct work placement into the labour market. The 2025 Town and Village Renewal Scheme

2025 CLÁR-Funding for Small-Scale Rural Projects

Closing date: Thursday 15th May 2025 at Midnight 

CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd-Riachtanais) is a targeted investment programme for rural areas that aims to provide funding for small infrastructural projects in rural areas that have experienced significant levels of de-population. Hi Digital Fund

Are you a nonprofit organisation working to enhance digital literacy and inclusion for older adults in your community? The Hi Digital Fund is aimed at addressing the digital skills gap among Ireland’s ageing population. Created by Rethink Ireland, this fund is in partnership with the Vodafone Foundation, SmartSimple, private donors and the Department of Rural and Community Development. The fund will support five awardees with business support and cash grants of up to €70,000 over two years.

CDPA Low Cost Spay and Neuter Scheme

This scheme is to help families who may be struggling financially to spay / neuter their cats. Depending on location, the cost will be between €30 - €45 for a male cat and between €45– €60 for a female cat.

SEAI - Home energy upgrade for traditional homes - Pilot Grant Scheme 

SEAI has recently launched a pilot grant scheme for the energy upgrading of traditional houses.
The pilot will provide tailored solutions for your traditional home and the upgrade options include all the technologies available to modern homes; roof insulation, wall insulation, floor insulation, windows & doors, ventilation, renewable heating (heat pumps), solar thermal, solar PV. Living Well Programme - Ballinasloe and Tuam

Ballinasloe begins on Friday 9th May 2025 for 6 Fridays, from 10.30am to 1.00pm.
Tuam begins on Monday 15th June 2025 for 6 Mondays from 10.30am to 1.00pm.
The Living Well Programme is a chronic disease self-management programme, originally developed at Standford University. The programme is suitable for anyone aged over 18 who is living with any kind of long-term health condition e.g. high blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, arthritis, depression, chronic pain, etc.
As participants must have the capacity to self-manage, the programme is not suitable for people with severe cognitive impairment or intellectual disability.

Ready to Go Orienteering training

Wednesday 21st May 2025 10:00am - 3:00pm Westside, Galway City
Are you a teacher, youth leader, scout leader, disability group, camp provider and interested in incorporating orienteering into your group activities? Ready To Go Orienteering (RTGO) course trains and equips activity leaders with the skills and ability to teach the fundamentals of the sport to beginners and young people, whilst providing them with the necessary resources to do this. The online only self-paced training videos programme for PPN stakeholders is provided by Social Justice Ireland on behalf of the Department and is intended for self-directed learning at the learner’s own pace. Social Justice Ireland will provide some support via the webform on each Module page. There are no scheduled classes as part of this training. Annual Sand Dune Gathering

Saturday 17th May 2025, 10am to 4pm, University of Galway 
This event brings together people interested in the future of Ireland’s beaches and dunes. At the event you will learn about, and contribute your views on, best practices in dune management, planning and restoration.
Gathering Outcomes:
- Help in designing local actions to implement for 2025s, by working through a series of dune management issues in “bite-sized best-practice” session. - Networking: an opportunity to meet other dune managers, volunteers, NGOs or policy makers. There will be an exhibition space (so bring along anything you would like to share in this space) - Resources: you need it, we have it! And if not, we can work together to find or develop it! We will host a field trip to Grattan Beach, Salthill.
