PPN NEWS

PPN New Staff Member! Silvana Falasca started as the Galway County PPN Support Worker in June 2024. She has a background in Film & TV, as well as experience in public service.

"I look forward to working alongside Duana Tuite (PPN Resource Worker) and everyone in the Galway County PPN, and other organisations, and most importantly it is a privilege for me to serve the wider community".

UPCOMING EVENTS

Showcase: Welcoming New Communities 

Monday 15th July 2024 9.15am to 4.30pm in Dublin Castle

(Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided)

Minister Joe O’Brien T.D, together with the Department of Rural and Community Development (DRCD) are hosting a Showcase event: Welcoming New Communities. This event is a celebration of the remarkable work being carried out at a local level in supporting new communities throughout Ireland.

A waiting list will be in operation when capacity at the venue is reached.

PPN National Workers Network Meeting - July 18th 2024 

Workers from the 31 PPNs across Ireland meet regularly to discuss challenges, opportunities, collaborations. Meetings are online/hybrid.

PPN Community Representatives

Deadline for Nominations: Wednesday 31st July 2024

CLAREGALWAY PER CENT FOR ART:  One PPN Rep. Vacancy

We wish to invite nominations for a Community representative from a PPN member group in the  Claregalway area to sit on a Local Public Art Working Group for the Claregalway Scheme led by Galway County Council Arts Office.

Per Cent For Art Commission-OPW Flood Relief Schemes ( Corrib/Clare Flood Relief)  in conjunction with Galway County Council has awarded Claregalway Per Cent Art funding.

A Public Art group is being formed for this project and we are looking for one representative from the Claregalway area. We would be delighted if you include why you are interested in public art. 

GALWAY RURAL DEVELOPMENT BOARD MEMBERS: Two PPN Reps. Vacancies

Galway Rural Development deliver a range of EU and national programmes including the LEADER Programme, SICAP (Social and Community Activation Programme), the RSS and TÚS schemes, WorkAbility, and Parent Child Plus.

GRD also acts as a sponsor of a CE scheme, have integration roles in partnership with the HSE, manage Empowering Communities in Ballinasloe, Rural Regeneration Development Fund projects, environmental initiatives, and have a range of stand-alone projects.

We welcome nominees for two Board roles, from the PPN for the invaluable perspective and genuine contribution you have always made to our organisation. 

The following are some of the specifics of the roles:

- Directors make a valuable input into the operations and governance to the local development operations in the county.

- Meetings take place on the third Wednesday of each month at 6pm in the Teagasc Campus - except August.  Meetings are 1-2 hours in duration. Zoom available.

- Expenses: GRD can cover travel expenses if they are within a reasonable distance from the campus.

Please note that our board works tirelessly toward gender and wider equality. 

GRD looks forward to receiving your nomination and working with your representatives, subject to board approval.

Nomination forms will be sent to all Galway County PPN member groups on Tuesday 9th July.

 
 

CONSULTATIONS

Public consultation: Galway County Local Economic and Community Plan  (LECP) 2024 – 2030.

Deadline extended to Friday 12th July 2024 at 5pm

Galway County Council is inviting the public to participate in a consultation process for the development of the Galway County LECP, a six-year plan that aims to promote sustainable economic and community development across Galway County.

Galway Centre for Independent Living is in its 30th year and has supported people with disability & mobility issues in Galway County & City, with an affordable, accessible, caring & professional transport service. At this stage, we would like to understand the wider demand for our transport services.

If you or someone you know, living in Galway, 18 years of age or older, are challenged by a physical mobility issue and are in need of affordable transport services, we would encourage you to complete this survey either online or on a physical page.

FUNDING

Community Centre Investment Fund (CCIF) 2024

Designed to support the development and refurbishment of community centres across Ireland. 

Supporting essential maintenance, retrofitting, and other necessary improvements, with grants of between €10,000 - €100,000 towards capital costs to develop and enhance their existing community facilities.

Eligibility and Funding Scope

Existing community centres can apply for funding to cover a range of projects, including compliance with fire safety and building regulations, energy efficiency upgrades, and essential maintenance works.

Application Process

The application process involves two stages: initial registration and formal application submission. Application window opens on 29th of July 2024, with applications due by 29th of August 2024. Applicants can register online HERE ahead of the application open date of the 29th of July.  

Support for Applicants

The Department is hosting online information sessions to assist applicants. The first session is scheduled for 25th of June 2024. Additionally, tutorials and support resources are available to guide applicants through the registration and application process.

Advisory notice for all Groups considering submitting applications under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme. Measures - M1, M2, M3. More info can be found HERE

Please Note: This scheme has not been launched as yet for this year.  
It will be circulated through this Network when it is launched by the Department.

National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards 2024.

Deadline for applications extended to Friday 12th July.

Again this year we have eight categories of awards, aligning to the WHO themes:

Transport, Active & Healthy Ageing, Business Innovation, Safety & Security, Communications, Environment, Community Innovation, Housing.

The conference's theme is 'Promoting the participation of disabled people in cultural life, recreation, leisure and sport in Ireland – UNCRPD Article 30’.
