MOBILE WEEE (WASTE ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT) COLLECTIONS OCTOBER 2024

WEEE Ireland, the Irish compliance scheme for electrical and battery recycling, will hold a series of WEEE collections throughout County Galway starting on Tuesday 8th October 2024. These collections will allow people from towns and villages across the county to dispose of any household electrical, electronic or battery equipment and batteries in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. Climate Actions Work Engagement Fund

The campaign, called Climate Actions Work, will focus on encouraging and supporting climate engagement and communications actions. The Climate Actions Work fund is specifically aimed at community groups and organisations to support them in • Community Awareness: promoting and creating awareness of climate actions in the local area and encourage others to get involved; • Community Engagement: making connections with each other in their communities, engage with each other and better coordinate their climate action efforts; • Community Activation: through better coordination develop new partnerships to support new and larger projects and programmes. Inland Fisheries Ireland - Go Fishing Fund (Part of Government’s Dormant Accounts Fund Action Plan 2024)

Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) launches new national €250k scheme for accessible angling.
The funding from IFI aims to help people try angling, regardless of their background or ability.
IFI is welcoming applications from charities and non-profit groups that provide services to people with a disability or restricted mobility, or people facing social, economic, or educational barriers.
Grants of between €2,000 and €5,000 are on offer towards fishing facilities, equipment, events, and biodiversity awareness outreach.
Applications for the scheme can be submitted via IFI’s dedicated portal from until November 7th, 2024.

LAWPRO Community Water Development Fund 2025
|
Deadline for submission: Wednesday 20th November 2024.

The CWDF 2025 will be more focused towards capital works, such as:
♦Riparian management/tree planting, planting of native species/hedgerows, de-tunnelling, etc. ♦Creation of habitat near river, lake, wetland ♦Fish passage projects ♦Removal of invasive species and biosecurity planning ♦Silt trapping or ‘Slow the Flow’ Natural Flood Retention Measures (e.g. the addition of large woody debris to drains) ♦Pollution management/prevention measures (e.g., wetlands, buffer zones) ♦Flood management measures (e.g., Swales, attenuation ponds) ♦Wetlands to promote wildlife and reduce pollution and flooding.
Only one application per not-for-profit group Minimum grant award of €5,000, up to a maximum grant award €50,000 2024 grantees: grants must be drawn down before 6th Dec 2024 to be eligible to apply for CWDF 2025.

New Research Ethics Course for the Public and Patients

Age Friendly Ireland is the organisation responsible for the national Age Friendly Programme, affiliated to the World Health Organization’s Global Network of Age Friendly Cities and Communities.
|
Age Friendly Galway County is delivered by Galway County Council and works to improve the services and facilities that our older people have identified as being important to them, and the wider community, as they live healthy and active lives.

Ombudsman Monthly Complaints Clinic in Galway

You must have tried to resolve your complaint with the body before contacting us.
Please bring any information with you to support your complaint such as letters, forms, or reference numbers. The Ombudsman cannot take complaints about consumer matters, financial products, private pensions or An Garda Síochána.

The launch of the Hub is in commemoration of the Positive Ageing Week (PAW). Age Action is the convenor of PAW and the launch is part of our week-long awareness raising activities under theme Challenging Ageism.

Celebrating Galway’s Local Positive Ageing Heroes 2024 Local Heroes Exhibition at Galway City Museum

This year, from September 30th to October 6th, Galway is shining a spotlight on 27 remarkable individuals from across the City and County who exemplify the positive aspects of ageing. The centrepiece of this celebration is the Local Heroes Exhibition, which will be launched at Galway City Museum on Tuesday 1st of October at 12 midday. Following its launch, the exhibition will travel to various libraries and other locations across the City and County. National Disability Authority (NDA) 2024 Annual Conference

The National Disability Authority would like to invite you to its Annual Conference 2024. This year’s event will examine the implementation of Article 30 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) in Ireland, which focuses on the participation of people with disabilities in cultural life, recreation, leisure and sport. A conference programme and ‘meet the speakers’ document are available on the NDA website
The Conference will be a hybrid event, in-person at the Havelock Suite, Aviva Stadium, Lansdowne Road or online via Zoom. This event will be free of charge. You can register here Irish Sign Language interpretation and real-time captioning will be provided (online and in-person). A Changing Places toilet and quiet room will also be available.
