Galway County Council Biodiversity Stakeholder Directory
|
The Galway County Council Biodiversity Office is developing a Biodiversity Stakeholder Directory as an action arising from the public consultation for the County Biodiversity Plan. The aim of the directory is to:
- Provide a user-friendly resource to identify organisations working to protect and enhance biodiversity.
- Support connections between groups, communities, and individuals.
- Help people find opportunities to get involved, including volunteering, student placements, and collaborative projects.
The directory will also support organisations by helping connect them with:
- Volunteers (including corporate volunteer days).
- Students (e.g. TY placements or project work)
- Members of the public interested in biodiversity initiatives.
This initiative is being delivered by Aoife Ní Mhainín, in collaboration with the Biodiversity Office.
Your organisation does not need to have environmental conservation as its primary purpose; if you actively participate in local conservation or biodiversity initiatives, we would love to include you.
If your organisation would like to be featured, please complete the form below. Organisations that submit their completed form by 15th of August will be entered into a draw to win a workshop with Aoife Munn.

President Catherine Connolly has signed into law a series of significant reforms aimed at strengthening protections for women and children. The legislation introduces Jennie’s Law and Valerie’s Law, creates new criminal offences for “sex for rent”, and enhances legal protections for victims counselling records.

Housing and Safety: Your Voice
|
Be part of a study on the impact of housing policy on women's decisions to leave or to remain within harmful domestic situations, in the West and Midwest of Ireland. This is a confidential survey for women about housing and safety - Your experience can help shape safer homes. The study is run by Dr Janine Mc Ginn and Noreen Henry from Strategic Research and Education Consultancy Ireland (SRECI) and Atlantic Technological University (ATU). They are working with COPE Galway, a charity that helps people with housing and safety. For Further information relating to this survey, you can contact the researchers at sreci.research@gmail.com. They want to understand how the rules about renting and housing in Ireland affect women who are living with, leaving, or moving on from an unsafe home. Galway County Council is keen to gather the views, lived experiences, and insights of community groups and individuals who represent a diverse range of perspectives across the county.
Engaging with stakeholders at an early stage will help us to better understand local needs and priorities and ensure that our plans, projects, and strategies included in the Annual Duty Action Plan 2026 are informed by the experiences of those most affected by them.
This forms part of our ongoing commitment to meaningful stakeholder engagement in line with the Public Sector Equality and Human Rights Duty.
We would particularly welcome participation in relation to upcoming initiatives, including the Athenry Active Travel Scheme, which is expected to go to public consultation in mid-July. Feedback received through this engagement process will help shape the development and delivery of this and other future projects. Public consultation on the Draft National Standards
for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
|
Closing date: Friday 21st August 2026 at 5pm
The Mental Health Commission (MHC) has launched a public consultation to develop new draft standards for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). This consultation aims to gather feedback from children, young people, parents, families, and carers, as well as professionals working in CAMHS services. The feedback will inform the finalisation of the standards and the development of associated Codes of Practice under the Mental Health Act. The MHC is seeking support to identify key areas for further development and refinement in the service. The consultation is the first stage of a process designed to develop "robust, evidence-based standards" that reflect the needs and expectations of children, young people, families, and professionals.

Public Consultation on the National Food Waste Prevention Roadmap 2026-2028

The Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment has launched a public consultation on Ireland’s National Food Waste Prevention Roadmap 2026–2028, inviting input from citizens, businesses, community organisations, farmers, food producers, retailers, food-service providers, and other stakeholders. The consultation seeks views on the actions and priorities needed to reduce food waste across the food supply chain over the coming years and support Ireland’s transition to a more sustainable and circular economy. Public Consultation to inform the Review of the Disability Act 2005
|
Closing date: Wednesday 9th September 2026 at 5pm
The public consultation on the review of the Disability Act 2005 is now open. The government has invited people with disabilities, their families, carers and representative groups to participate in a public consultation to inform the review of the Disability Act 2005.
The Disability Act is a substantial piece of legislation. It relates to:
- The definition of disability - The assessment of needs process - Accessible public buildings
- Universal design - The use of genetic data - Employment - And more.
The government will now examine how the Act has worked, or how it has not worked, and how it should be reformed.
Guidance documents about the Consultation on Disability Act are available in a full range of accessible formats. This includes Irish Sign Language video; Easy-to-Read version; a screen reader friendly version and braille on request. Submissions will be accepted in writing (by email or by post). Public Consultation on Mandatory fortification of flour with folic acid
|
Closing date: Monday 5th October 2026 at 5pm
A public consultation has opened on proposals to introduce mandatory folic acid fortification of non-wholemeal flour in Ireland. The proposed measure aims to increase folic acid intake and reduce the incidence of neural tube defects, in Ireland. Neural tube defects include conditions such as spina bifida, anencephaly, encephalocele and iniencephaly. Neural tube defects can occur when the spinal cord does not develop properly during early pregnancy. Ireland has a higher-than-average rate of occurrence of neural tube defects compared with the rest of Europe. Research has shown that sufficient folic acid intake may help reduce the incidence of neural tube defects.

Childminding Parent Survey 2026
|
Childminding Ireland has launched a National Survey for parents who currently use a childminder. The findings will provide vital evidence to inform discussions with Government and policymakers around the introduction of mandatory childminding regulations, due to come into effect in September 2027. As decisions are being made about the future of childminding in Ireland, it is essential that the experiences and perspectives of parents are part of that conversation. The survey takes approximately six minutes to complete, is fully anonymous, and is open to all parents who use a childminder.

Injury Prevention Practices for Recreational Runners
|
Complete an anonymous survey to help us learn more about injury prevention strategies for recreational runners (i.e. if you do any other training with the purpose of preventing injury when you run). We will then examine the responses from the full group of people who completed the survey and see how runners’ practices compare with the guidelines that have been recommended by renowned organisations such as the American College of Sports Medicine. This is important because running-related injuries are common among recreational runners. If we can learn more about people’s knowledge of injury prevention strategies, and what they actually do to prevent injury, the information could be used to inform educational and public health strategies to help prevent injuries in recreational runners. The RSA is asking cyclists to complete a 15-minute survey on their experiences cycling in Ireland to inform road safety initiatives. Participants must be:

This is the first comprehensive research examining how all Irish social enterprises finance environmental and climate activities. Whether you're scaling green initiatives or prioritising other social missions, your perspective matters. Irish social enterprises often face barriers accessing green finance that traditional businesses do not, despite delivering strong environmental and social outcomes.
Many social enterprises report that lenders and investors struggle to understand their model and impact. For the first time, we're gathering evidence on what stops social enterprises from accessing green finance, which barriers are fixable vs structural, and which policies would help you.
This evidence aims to inform future government funding mechanisms over the next 5-10 years.

The 2026 What Works In Communities Fund seeks to empower communities by supporting C&V organisations that deliver prevention and early intervention initiatives for children and young people, including those with disabilities, those that are marginalised, and those at risk of social exclusion.
The Fund specifically aims to support not-for-profit, non-statutory organisations based in the Ireland that are community-led and providing services, supports or advocacy for community benefit.

Building Blocks Extension Scheme Phase 2
Capital Scheme for Early Learning and Childcare Services
|
Closing date: Friday 31st July 2026
The Building Blocks Extension Scheme Phase 2 will provide grants for community and private early learning and childcare services who are Core Funding partner services to increase their capacity by means of extensions to their existing premises.
Community providers can apply for a capital grant of between €100,000 and €530,000 to extend their existing premises.
Private providers can apply for a capital grant of between €50,000 and €265,000 to extend their existing premises.
All projects will be required to deliver net increases in full-time places for one to three year-olds. Projects will also be required to incorporate Universal Design Guidelines.

Culture Ireland offers support to Irish professional artists, arts organisations and international presenters to present work by Irish artists at significant international venues and festivals.
In supporting an event, Culture Ireland traditionally offers grant funding towards costs which relate directly to the international presentation of the event, i.e. travel and travel related costs such as transport, freight, accommodation and subsistence. In order for an application to be considered, the applicant must have an international partner or be an international presenter who will provide a fee to the artist and assist with promotion and presentation costs. The next deadlines for receipt of grant applications are 5th August 2026 (for events starting 15th November 2026 onwards) and 5th November 2026 (for events starting 15th February 2027 onwards). Chronic Connections is a networking programme for sick and disabled visual artists, delivered by Chronic Collective in partnership with Fire Station Artists' Studios (FSAS).

126 Artist-Run Gallery are now accepting applications to participate in a performance art workshop led by the renowned performance artist Sandra Corrigan Breathnach. The workshop will run from the 15th of September to the 17th of September. Workshop participants will have an opportunity to participate in Corrigan Breathnach's Culture Night performance, Tulach, on the 18th of September and an opportunity to create solo / collaborative performance/s at the workshop outcome performance event being held on Saturday the 19th of September. *Please Note* - Participants must be in a position to be present at the gallery for the duration of the workshop and performance events from the 15th until the 19th of September.
Within this workshop participants will explore embodied presence and metaphysical connection, through a series of exercises designed to create cohesive performance outcomes. Building connection, with a focus on process, sound and intuitive / collaborative action.

Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) 2026/2027

The Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme provides funding for the development and maintenance of new and existing outdoor recreational infrastructure in rural areas and will support hundreds of outdoor recreation projects nationwide. Applications are invited from local authorities, local development companies and state bodies, in consultation with local communities and aligning with emerging project recommendations from new county outdoor recreation plans that are being developed across the country. Galway County Council operates an annual Burial Ground Maintenance Grant Scheme to acknowledge and support voluntary activity in the maintenance of local burial grounds. Applications are now invited from Burial Ground Maintenance Committees involved in burial ground maintenance works in historic, closed, or open Burial Grounds in the ownership of Galway County Council.
Where a Burial Ground Committee does not exist in a particular area, an application can be submitted by a local Community Group or Tidy Towns Group who carry out maintenance works. An application can be made by submitting a completed application form (available here), official receipts for all expenditure, and a bank statement or credit union statement in the name of the applicant group, by the closing date of Wednesday 30th September 2026. This grants scheme is for community groups to apply for small scale initiatives and events outside of LAWPRO’s targeted open calls. It covers events such as World Wetland Day, Biodiversity Week, Science Week, etc. It may also be used for small awareness raising initiatives such as surveys and plans, citizen science, hosting a meeting, workshops, litter pick, publications, biodiversity signage, or other such small scale initiatives.
Applications must have a water quality or water awareness focus.
Please do not use this application form to apply for events to be hosted during Heritage Week (August 15th to 23rd 2026). A separate application process for Heritage Week grants will be advertised at a later date and well in advance of Heritage Week 2026.

Galway County Council is operating a grant scheme: Architectural Heritage Fund STITCH IN TIME GRANT which is a grant for Minor Repairs & Conservation Advice Reports to assist owners towards the cost of minor repairs or maintenance works to Protected Structures, proposed Protected Structures or historic buildings within Architectural Conservation Areas that enhance the place or street. Other historic buildings may be considered but priority will be given to those with statutory protection. To ensure that owners are appropriately advised on the works required to their property
the scheme can also be availed of to produce building condition reports/surveys, method statements

Cycle Against Suicide are delighted to announce new dates for their Mental Health Peer support training programme this Autumn free of charge. This peer-support programme sets out to educate senior personnel and team leads on how stress and mental health problems can affect their employees. It is designed for companies to not only prevent mental ill health but to integrate mental health and wellbeing into all parts of the workplace.
This training is delivered over two full days 9.30am to 5pm and accredits 13.5 CPD points.

It’s designed to be interactive and enjoyable with a practical, hands-on focus.
Age & Opportunity is offering the initiative/course for older adult LGBTQ+ groups this Autumn and in 2027, funded by the Bank of Ireland Community Development Fund, through Community Foundation Ireland. It’s structured as 5 x in person sessions of 2.5 hours each.

Did you know you can choose to take paternity leave at any time in the 26 weeks after your baby’s birth or adoption? You need to give your employer:
♦ Notice that you want to take paternity leave
♦ The dates you plan to take your leave
You must do this in writing at least 4 weeks before your leave.
You must provide a certificate from your partner’s doctor stating either:
♦ When your baby is due
♦ Your baby’s actual date of birth, if you apply for leave after their birth
If you are adopting, you must provide a certificate of placement showing the date when the child was placed with you.

Cashel Together Festival 2026

From Monday 3rd to Sunday 9th August 2026 - Cashel, Co. Galway
Cashel Together is a weeklong annual festival taking place in the heart of Connemara, where all the family is catered for. Take part in sport events, kids’ club, dance classes and a Céilí.
The festival starts with a BBQ of local fish and sports for the children and the official opening takes place at 7pm with the releasing of white balloons and a special guest. There is a fresh water fishing competition on one of Cashel’s beautiful lakes.
One of the highlights of the week is a special Mass on the Mass Rock, where there are breath-taking views over all of Cashel. The Mass rock is where mass was said during penal times in Ireland.

Library's special events from Wednesday 5th to Thursday 27th August 2026 - Ballinasloe Library
Ballinasloe Library has a wide range of events this August for all ages. Regular weekly activities include craft groups, an international women’s group, storytime, and Lego free play sessions.
Special children’s events include a Paint Splash workshop (Aug 5th), Lego Flower Kits (Aug 15th), and a fun AgriKids Van family day (Aug 13th) focusing on farm safety and activities.
The Golden Years Book Club meets on Wednesday 12th August at 11:30am, currently reading Good Dirt by Charmaine Wilkerson.
There will also be a Volunteer Ireland information session on August 27th (11am–1pm), inviting local groups to register and learn more about volunteering opportunities.

From Friday 7th to Sunday 9th August 2026 Kinvara, Co. Galway
For over 150 years the parishes of Carraroe, Co. Galway and Kinvara, Co.Galway engaged in commercial trade across Galway bay. The majestic Galway Hookers (Bád Mór, Leathbhád, Gleoiteog, and Púcán) laden with turf were sailed from Carraroe and traded in Kinvara.
In 1957 due to the advent of bottled gas and a greatly improved road network, the tradition was lost.
In 1979 local man Tony Moylan (RIP) established the ‘Cruinniu na mBad’ in an attempt to re-enact / retain this tradition that had spanned over five generations. Cruinniu means a gathering in Irish, and the idea was to bring all the old boats together to celebrate this wonderful tradition.
Whilst the primary focus of the festival is based on the sea events since 2017 the current committee have been expanding the tradition on the Land and have successfully broaden the event to the wider audience. For more information and full programme, please visit https://cruinniu.ie/

Athenry's Big Day Out 2026

The Big Day Out is returning to Athenry Park after attracting over 1,000 attendees last year.
The community-focused family event will feature more vendors, stalls, and activities, with proceeds supporting the maintenance and future repairs of the local playground. While the playground's reopening is uncertain, the event will go ahead with a packed programme.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of food and drink vendors, including returning favourites and new additions. Activities include circus performances, yoga sessions for children and teenagers, live music, arts and crafts, local authors, mud kitchens, crazy golf, free face painting, a toddler play zone, and demonstrations from community groups. There will also be free access to the youth and adult makers market, making it a fun-filled day for all ages.

It can be interpreted from the perspective of a community defined by place, identity or commonality; understood beyond borders in sharing a cause or struggle; or look at our relationship with the natural environment. We welcome submissions in any medium and from artists at all stages of their careers. There is no submission fee, and we are seeking existing works only.
