Community Support Centres - Expression of Interest

Galway County Council is inviting community groups and organisations to put forward facilities that could serve as Community Support Centres during severe weather events.
The initiative follows the experience of Storm Éowyn in January 2025, when the benefits of such centres were keenly felt across County Galway as communities confronted widespread disruption to services. The centres are designed to provide a safe and supportive environment for residents affected by adverse conditions, offering access to essential services such as water and hot food, phone charging and broadband, and toilet facilities. Groups or facility operators willing to assist are asked to complete the Expression of Interest Form via https://forms.office.com/e/Lrk5J59vb3
Further information is available from Theresa Donohue and Kieran Coyne in the Community Development Department of Galway County Council at 091 509 225.

Friday 6th February 2026 at 8pm Oughterard Courthouse Co. Galway H91 XWH9
“Echoes of the Isles” is a Digital Heritage Age and Art project led by Gary Dempsey that digitally captures Ireland’s island communities, preserving their buildings, stories, and seascapes. It blends photogrammetry, oral history, and art to create an immersive, enduring record of fragile Island heritage. The project was funded by the Heritage Council's Heritage Strategy Fund 2025 and includes artwork by Róisin Doherty and John Flynn. Gary will talk about his work on the Echoes of the Isles project focusing on the coastal islands of Galway, before discussing his work on the Digital Atlas of Early Irish Carved Stone (DAEICS) and Og(h)am Project, which included digital surveys on Inchagoill, Lough Corrib. This will include a presentation of digital scanning of the archaeology of the Island, and how Inchagoill fits within the wider 12th century architecture of Connacht.
